I must be in a positive mood this morning, but I honestly can't think of any way to criticize this edition. It contains a great introduction, featuring information on the books literary, social, political and historical context, and introduction to meter, literary figures, etc. The appendices include a full glossary, very (almost too) helpful notes, and further information on literary figures and context. This is designed, and succeeds, as an all-in-one package.
I got spoiled with the commentaries for 1, 2, & 4; their notes link directly to the lines and back. The commentary is good, though.

I am the author of thirteen published articles and one published book on the Aeneid. So I can speak with authority. The Aeneid 4 has been well-served by English-language commentaries; by Austin, Henry, Mackail, Pease, and the Focus series.However, despite the wealth of information and insight in the other commentaries, Maclennon adds much to elucidate the meaning, intention, and technique of the Aeneid.
