If you expect to find in-depth info about the key tourist spots from a travel guide book, you will be very disappointed by this book. It looks like it covers a lot, but only very superficially.
This guide provided useful information for our trip down the Pacific Coast Highway from San Francisco to San Diego.
California's coast is one of those destinations that I find tricky to visit, because there is SO MUCH iconic to see, I don't know where to start and what to skip. I had the pleasure of hearing Stuart speak at the New York Times Travel Show and his approach helped me narrow things down. Now I know where to paddleboard and how to find the best taquerias. I've IDed a few promising hikes and have a better idea of how long I should spend getting from one place to another, not using Google maps, but how much time I should allow myself to really see thing. I can't wait for this trip and I'm glad to have this book to direct me in planning.
There are times that having a travel book is much more useful than researching on the internet. This was so true for our recent visit to California when we suddenly had to come up with Plan B because of the fires.
