Feeling lucky with my book choice! It is not very easy to find a great sci-fi thriller these days. Well, there are numerous, but image bearing, interesting, with intrigue, great plot and characters are quite few. Pulse exceeded my expectations. This book possesses all components of a successful sci-fi novel, which is able to satisfy even the most demanding reader. This is the story of Robert Finlay, who lost his mother and lives with his twin sister Maggie, aunt and uncle. Being an ordinary teenager, Robert is bullied at school by a troubled classmate Gavin Clarke, who enjoys picking on people. One day, after encountering a mysterious orb of light after a party at the lake, Robert could never have imagined his life would change so radically. Now, possessing alien powers, will he be strong enough not to become a victim again? Where will these powers lead him? What things and people these powers are going to attract to Robert’s life?Greatly structured, Pulse consists of 4 main parts with numerous chapters. What I loved a lot is that there are mentions of my favorite songs and even video games that I’ve played in the book. For example, one of the chapters begins with a quote from Queen, one of my most loved bands. This helped me to submerge into the atmosphere of thrilling adventures even more. Fast-paced, with greatly developed characters and an astonishing ending this book had a great impact on me.So if you want to accompany Robert and his sister Maggie in their amazing quest, if you want to uncover the secrets behind Robert’s mystical powers, just give this fascinating read a try.

The things I most enjoy in a book are a good story that draws you in where you get to see characters develop until you become invested in their lives and what they are experiencing. I did not find much of that here. There are a lot of grammatical errors that a good proofreading could fix. And there are a few times where the timing just didn’t flow, like the classroom scene where the period was over after just a few minutes of conversation.

PULSE provides a heart stopping, an adrenaline rush that's assured to satisfy the most finicky of Science Fiction readers. With each new scene that's introduced, it takes the reader on a roller coaster ride. This book will keep you guessing, or just when you feel you have it all figured out it suddenly shifts and takes you in a direction that you never expected.Matthew Wade has proven to me that he has mastered the Science Fiction gene. This book took me by storm and held my attention until the last page. There was never a dull moment in this book; I found it to be one that was written with the intent for the reader’s ultimate pleasure.

Pulse by Matthew Wade is a novel in the science fiction genre. It starts with an old man and his dog encountering a fatal incident with a celestial object crashing from the sky at a lake. Further inquiries into the accident result in more casualties, making the local authorities vary. A group of high school students throw a party near the lake, unaware of the damage. When Robert “Bobby” Finlay is hit by a strange blue lighting, and wakes up feeling not too different. However when electric objects start exploding in his vicinity and angst, he realizes he may have acquired a power when struck by lighting. On the other hand, Captain Simpson is intrigued by the ongoing investigation, and decides to dig deeper into the high school party. It’s a clash of powers as you read up on whether Robert uses his newly acquired powers for the good or evil of those around him? Matthew wade has done a remarkable job researching every aspect of this novel, and has built the characters with narrations from their past brilliantly. Highly recommended for all sci-fi geeks.

I was left wondering what was missing in the plot when I finished. The story just sort of ended before it needed to. One of the worst edited e-books I have ever read; so many incorrect words and verb tense used. My biggest gripe is the vernacular. I understand the author is from London, but if the story is set in US with teenagers born in US, there is no need to use words like “crisps” or identifying tires as “tyres”. It was unnecessary and confusing. However, decent first effort. I will give the author another chance.

After reading the first five chapters, I don't think I will finish this book. A lot of grammar errors, words clearly left out or added in error, POV changes that make no sense, etc. In one Chapter, a high school class apparently lasts for five minutes beginning with one student interacting with the teacher about a homework assignment and ending with a second student being saved by the bell for the end of the class.

Could be better, could be worse. I kind of struggled with this book but I gave it a chance and finished it. The story has so much potential but it left me hanging on several points. It's like you're at a concert and your favourite song is playing, only to be followed by a song you don't like. Wade can write, but I think he's trying too hard. He just has to find his own voice and stick with it.

Enjoyed this read from Matthew Wade. It was a great read and the characters pulled me in quickly. I haven't read a Sci-Fi / Supernatural book in a while and this was a good choice to work out my Kindle again. I definitely recommend Pulse for those into Supernatural books. Also love the cover artwork!
