My toddler loves this book.

Let's be clear- I personally do not love this book. I personally am so and totally beyond over this book. I personally don't understand why anyone's writing about the alphabet in a coconut tree. I personally am a bit concerned that all of these little ones are running free up a coconut tree with no supervision. I personally think "a" has a bit of an attitude. But my 2.5 year old LOVES it. Beyond loves it; we have TWO copies of this book. I have one in my room on her shelf and she has one she's loved to destruction in her bedroom. She can kinda "read" it- she can tell you the entire story even if it's not in front of her. And she loves that all of the letters are in the back. I'm fairly sure I can thank this book for the fact that she knows her upper case and lower case letters. Every bedtime ends with this story ( I don't even read it anymore- I have it memorized.) There are no fights when the lights go off because the sun goes down on the coconut tree.

My 3 month old is captivated! I'm not sure if she's making the connection to the letters, words, or the fact that I'm reading it, but she scans every page! The board book is sturdy and easy to handle, so I let my girl hold it and play with the pages as well.

This was my 6th copy! All 5 of my kids had their own copy. While FaceTime reading with my granddaughter who lives in Tennessee while I live in Colorado she was complaining that her little sister wrote in her favorite book and she opened it to the front to show me. I burst out laughing because it was actually my youngest sonâ€™s (now 17!) book from when he was a kid. He had scrawled Joseph on the front inside cover (nearly illegible as he was 4! and only a mom would recognize it!) and Sophia was irritated thinking her little sister was disrespecting her books. Turns out my daughter had raised my storage container looking for her Nancy Drew books, but came across Josephâ€™s box! I immediately bought Sophia her own!

Aren't youngsters learning to read today SO much younger than most people of my generation ever did? Still amazes me that our grandsons learned their letters with such lightning-fast speed (then again, so many of today's children's shows are educational, as opposed to the simply amusing cartoons we had.) Our 3 year old had already been quite proficient with his ABC's when we gave him this book on his birthday, but we'll get a "2-fer" out of it - a fun reinforcement for him that he'll begin to actually read with, and it'll be waiting in the wings for his 1 year old baby sister (not to mention the newest family addition we recently found out about, due to arrive next May!)Very simple story in that all of the (lower case) letters are racing to the top of a coconut tree, once they're all up there the tree becomes top-heavy and - "Chicka chicka... BOOM! BOOM!" - bends from the load, they all come tumbling out, incurring normal childhood-type ailments (skinned-knee, stubbed-toe, loose tooth, out of breath, tangled and knotted up, looped, stooped and "twisted alley-oop", etc.) The parents, aunts and uncles (capital letters) come to their aid as the tree trunk straightens back up. BUT... when the full moon comes out that night, "A" sneaks out of bed and - as children will do - double dares them all back up to the top of the tree! The book ends with a 2-page spread of all of the letters, upper and lower case next to each other - a terrific tool to help youngsters recognize both forms, and part of the fun are the rhymes and fun tongue-twister expressions interspersed throughout (i.e. Skit skat skoodle doot/Flip flop flee.) Super cute little book!You can probably imagine that - having babysat for three of my four grandchildren for 7 years prior to my daughter-in-law becoming a stay-at-home-mom - we have MANY board books included in the large children's library we've built for them over those years - typically, if they're board book versions of a previously released book, they're greatly ABRIDGED versions. I have to say that not only is this one of the highest quality-constructed board books we've purchased, but at 36 pages long (as compared to the hardcover's 40 pages), I think we've actually got most of the entire original book! (Obvious difference would be its size - this is @ 5-1/2" x 7" and a full 3/4" thick, while the hardcover's description lists it as 8.2 x .4 x 10.9.) And what a deal! We purchased this on Amazon for below its imprinted $7.99 US price, and are so pleased with what we received for our dollars - nice, thick pages, bright and eye-catching colors - even our 5-1/2 and 9-1/2 year old grandsons have gotten a kick out of reading this to the little ones!

A classic from my childhood, my kids absolutely love this book! They quickly got the hang of the rhythm and they love joining in with all the "Chicka chicka BOOM BOOMs!"My 2 year old loves to sing the ABCs when we get to the back of the book, where it is so nicely printed.We are in middle of creating our own chick chicka boom boom tree out of coffee cans and ABC magnets, as I saw on a preschool blog.A very wonderful addition to our homeschool classroom!

If you have never read this book to a child, I would HIGHLY recommend it! It is an ABC book, but it is written so it rhymes from start to finish. The cadence you can easily achieve is fantastic! It's so much fun to read, and for ANYONE to enjoy. We bought this book for our grand children and these are for our great-grandchildren. The fun in these pages never diminishes. It is a classic!

I have bought this book only because it was highly rated and we had it since my kid was 6 months old. Now she is about 2. I have tried reading this to her a few times, but not only I felt stupid reading this nonsense, non-existent words, and abstract graphics, but my kid never paid any attention to it.I cannot say who this book should be perfect for, but definitely not for most kids and adults. :) The graphics are ugly, there is only 1 tree and letters. Nothing else!!! Nothing that will keep the attention of your kid.The story or songs - not sure what this is, is ridiculous. "A told B and B told C I'll meet you at he top of the coconut tree." How to explain my 2 year old what is going on here? :) My kid is only 2 and even though she knows every single letter, and numbers up to 10, she is not interested at all in this book.I wish I returned it when I could.

I followed this case very closely from the beginning. Sadly this is just a collection of google searches juxtaposed with elementary writing. Even the images in the middle of the book are lifted directly from a google image search. Hernandezâ€™s tragic downfall is so fascinating that this book is readable, but Patterson really put in minimal effort. Would love to see this story told by a fantastic writer who takes their craft seriously!

A great read but not very much detailed information that hasnâ€™t already been reported . They could have provided some interviews with someone who knew him.

Everything in this book has already been widely reported. Not as in depth or revealing as I had hoped.

Sad story. Easy read. Even if youâ€™re not a football fan. Itâ€™s still interesting. Why would someone with so much potential go out and commit heinous crimes?! It defies logic. Thereâ€™s no reason. Yet everyday, people make choices that effect the rest of their lives. Good or bad. This is one of those bad decision stories and the consequences that followed.

Very interesting and a good read. I'm very interested in what football does to the brain, we need to keep this in mind.

This is an interesting story written more like a long newspaper article. It gives you the facts, but totally lacks literary quality.

Book was terrible. Just a lousy author who jumped on writing this book before everyone for $$$.. Re told stories that have already been leaked extensively to the public. Used his shady lawyers (ESPECIALLY LEONTIRE) words who are doing nothing but trying to promote their own careers. Lawyer-Client confidentiality? As good of a lawyer Baez may be, those guys are all dirt bags. If you want some legitimate information on the life of the man, Iâ€™d suggest trusting his brother DJâ€™s book.

This is a phenomenally researched book. I'm not a fan of football or its players. I am a fan of James Patterson. This has his trademark style as well as good guys and villains. I felt truly sorry for all of this murderers victims along with their families. I never knew Tim Tebow was such a good guy. I never knew Robert Kraft was such a good guy. I am astounded at how many details are included in the incidents. Great true crime book..

This book brought a smile to my Motherâ€™s face.

Great for entire family.

My son loves this book

I finished 'reading' this a couple days ago. I put off writing the review because I wanted to write it in German. But I just feel too inept in my writing and speaking of the language. So English it is. In case anyone is interested, I have started working with an app called DuoLingo where you can learn other languages. I started out wanting to do Spanish and German but my two semesters of German is closer in memory (I took those nearly a couple decades ago) than my two years of Spanish in high school. So after I get better with my German I may go back and try Spanish again. Either way, I understand a lot more written than I do any other way. I wish DuoLingo offered Latin because that has got me through a lot of my life as a basis.***This was a cute little book about the love of three sons for their mother. They want to give her a birthday present to show their love. It is sweet and adorable. I would love to be able to read it aloud one day to myself, my cats and hey, it could happen, my grandchildren.My biggest problem is that the text-to-speech doesn't work. I would think a child would love to have this be a book to read or have read to him or her so they could learn to read it themselves and understand from both languages. And the language of love that the bunny brothers teach so well. By the way, I have downloaded the German narrators on my fire but they didn't work any better than the English version. So I will have to learn the words better to be able to speak them with any expertise at all. This nice part about the DuoLingo app is you do get to practice speaking the language. I do wish I could find more books that are read to me in the easy learning levels.

Loved this book! I got it for my great nephews to hopefully learn a little German while they're still young and pick up language early.

She then details the actionable things we can do (a specific breathing technique, a check-list, a mantra, and so on) to bring into our day. All the â€œtipsâ€ are packaged at the end of the chapter. So indeed, the book is built to be revisited by topic, say, two years from now on your worst day ever at work.An exhaustively comprehensive Rx for our everyday challenges. At once probing of our mental innards, and plainly, wonderfully practical. We know it does us no good to have another wasted day. With this book, we need no longer search in anguish for what to do about it. Fantastically beneficial from the first sit-down.

This book should suck. Really. The title clearly over-promises (â€œHow To Have a Good Day,â€ indeed) and the text attempts three of the most difficult non-fiction high-wire acts: popularizing science without making stupid errors, presenting business advice that doesnâ€™t trigger your bulls*** detector, and giving self-help tips that donâ€™t fall off into either banality or featherbrained woo.Nearly impossible. And yet, somehow, Caroline Webb has pulled it off.â€œHow to Have a Good Dayâ€ is a meticulously documented, step-by-step approach to leveraging contemporary research in cognitive science and behavioral economics to solve the real problems that keep us from being effective â€” and happy â€” in our day-to-day jobs and lives. And itâ€™s not aimed at helping you â€œfeelâ€ better, but, rather, outlines a rigorously pragmatic approach to actually *doing* better: analyzing situations more effectively, making better decisions, and communicating with others with empathy and impact.Every piece of advice comes with a footnoted scientific study â€” often more than one â€” buttressing its claims. And Webb, a former partner at a management consulting firm, peppers the text with mini-case studies, anecdotes from business leaders across a wide spectrum of industries that reinforce each of the learnings. We do not directly experience the world, but rather offload much of our administrative processing to sub-conscious systems â€” and therein lies the problem: we make snap judgements, improperly weight data, and can miss things that are literally right in front of our eyes.One example Webb uses to demonstrate this kind of inattentional blindness is the famous â€œgorilla in the basketball gameâ€ video (if youâ€™re not familiar, hereâ€™s a helpful NPR backgrounder: [...] ). Webb offers a variety of tested methods for re-focusing our brainâ€™s attention, keeping us in a creative, open state, and engaging the teams around us in ways that help keep them working at their full potential. Hint: It can be as simple as using the â€œyesâ€¦andâ€ familiar to anyone whoâ€™s done improv comedy to keep other team members from going into the â€œamygdala hijackâ€ of defensive mode.One weird trick I found particularly compelling was harnessing our social brain to solve abstract logic puzzles. Webb uses the example of the Wason selection task (see Wikipedia: [...]), in which you have four cards, showing D, F, 3, and 7, and are asked which cards you would need to turn over to test the truth of the assertion that any card with a â€œDâ€ on one side must have a â€œ3â€ on the other. A majority of people get this wrong. But then Webb suggests reframing it in social terms:â€œYouâ€™re a bartender. You have to make sure that anyone drinking beer in your bar is over twenty-one, or you could lose your license. Each of the cards below represents information about four of your patrons. One side of the card shows what theyâ€™re drinking, and the other side of the card shows their (real) age. Which card or cards to you need to turn over to see if the twenty-one-and-over rule is being violated?â€ The cards are: Beer, Coke, 25, and 16.Three times as many people get this right, because theyâ€™re leveraging their social knowledge. And as Webb points out, we can easily apply this framing to everyday conceptual challenges to provide extra processing power. And thatâ€™s just one cherry-picked example. The 300 pages of this book are packed with equally powerful bits of advice.Webb conveys this all with style and wit, in prose that is at once warm and unpretentious and yet totally at home with the complexities of the evidence she marshals to support her arguments. It is well-written down to the footnotes, and contains two helpful appendices on applying the bookâ€™s insights to the two main productivity killers of the business world, meetings and e-mail. I came away with half-a-dozen ideas for things to do differently (some as simple as single-tasking and batching the times I respond to e-mails) and I can virtually guarantee that youâ€™ll find things that will make your days more productive and, yes, happier.Full disclosure: I used to work at the same company as Ms. Webbâ€™s husband, but I have never met her.

A number of years ago, Wilderness Press published a series of 50 Best Short Hikes, guides meant for families and really almost everyone. The Utah National Parks selection was one of the best sellers in the series, but author Ron Adkison has passed on, and Wilderness Press has brought in Greg Witt to write a new version of this book. He has done a marvelous job. Yes, the book remains true to the original series and focuses on walks the whole family can enjoy. But these are spectacular hikes, and any hiker of any ability level will find something to captivating in this book, including die hard exercise enthusiasts who would normally shy away from a book with the word "short" in the title.Utah's national parks are managed with day hikers in mind. Backpacking is often an option, of course, but water sources are scarce and unreliable, and often the best scenery is fairly close at hand anyway. Visitors to Arches, for example, can take in much of the park in an extended day, and one of the best features of this book is that Witt offers a "park in a day" preface to each chapter so visitors coming for spring break, probably the best time to visit most of these parks, can get the maximum enjoyment for their time. Utah is not that easily accessible to me, and books like this are ideal for my type of exploration. Often, you can get a better feel for a park by doing two or three short hikes than one long one in any event. And one cannot quarrel with the hike selection: Park Avenue and Devil's Garden in Arches, The Queen's Garden-Navajo Loop in Bryce, Mesa Arch and Grand View Point in Canyonlands, and Hickman Bridge in Capitol Reef. Virtually every one of my favorite trails appears in this book.Each park gets about 10 trails, with Zion (correctly) meriting slightly more. Mileages are accurate, sketch maps adequate, and the side bars on natural history make the text all the more enjoyable. But most importantly, this book gets you out of your car and onto the trails in short order, allowing you to experience the best of each park. And what makes it a great book is that if you use it once, you are sure to want to use it again. I know my week long visit this year has whetted my appetite for more, and I have avidly read, and reread, the route descriptions in this fine little volume. I can hardly wait to use it again next year. That is the mark of a great hiking guide. Get it.

Another 5 star offering! We spend a lot of time in southern Utah, in and out of the National Parks. This book guides us to the best in fairly short hikes as opposed to hikes of 2 or 3 days length. The directions for reaching the trail heads are concise and accurate. The descriptions of what to expect on the hike are appreciated. A good investment with a return of tons of good information.

The book accurately describes the trails and gives a good indication of their difficulty and the trails' special features. It was fun to read about the trails ahead of time and think about what we might want to try. We spent a day at Bryce Canyon and 4 days at Zion and found that the trails in those parks were clearly marked, so the book trail maps were not really needed, and the park free publications gave us much of the same information about difficulty and interest points. The book was not needed as a carry-on in our backpacks, but it was a helpful resource in planning.

I used this guide as a companion on a trip last to Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. It gives some great information on specific hikes, and pointed me toward the most rewarding. With the background information in this guide, I was able to predetermine my hikes ahead of time instead of wasting precious time while on vacation. Nice book, good location information, and fantastic hiking time estimates. I have hiked 13 of the 50, and they were all amazing. Cannot wait to fulfill the balance.

In preparing for our first trip to Utah, this book was great as we planned day hikes in the five national parks. Recommended by Greg's daughter, Tessa, at their guide company, Alpenwild, I purchased the book before the trip to tag hikes that looked interesting. While in the parks, the very detailed descriptions of the hikes allowed us to choose two or even three that would fit into our plans for the day. Where possible, we were choosing hikes with the greatest elevation gain, and the book provided us with the details we needed. From Devil's Garden trail in Arches to Hidden Canyon in Zion, the book helped us make the best of our time in the five parks.

Yes at this time it very much met my needs. I'm preparing to take a months vacation out in Utah 's canyon/arches area. This book gave me a good idea of what to expect and how to take the best advantage of what is available. I am a Senior age camper but the book list some trails I'm sure I can handle. I would very much recommend this book for someone planning to travel the area.

We used this guide to help select which hikes to do in Utahâ€™s National Parks. Good overview, and background info but be sure to also consult the visitors guide you get at the park office since some great hikes are not listed in this book. Also take the trail ratings with a grain of salt. A few rated moderate were actually pretty strenuous. Wish some of the pix were in color instead of B&W.

I just returned from a trip to all 5 of Utah's national parks and this guide was indispensable. Since I had limited time in each park, I wanted to hike the best trails and be aware of what I was getting into. The temperature was often in the 90's and I felt comfortable choosing a trail that was doable in the heat. For instance, I hiked the Mesa Arch trail in 99Â° heat and knowing that the difficulty rating was a 1 (a short easy walk), elevation change was only 80' and average hiking time was 20-30 minutes and saw a lovely sight I would have otherwise probably skipped without the book. I enjoyed the descriptions as well, telling me what scenic mountain or canyon I was gazing upon.I found it a very good trail companion.

Given who Sandel is and his previous body of work, I bought this book expecting a deeper exploration about the morality of economics and the limits of its underlying utilitarian framework (and its implicit mathematical ordering eg Pareto optimality and the like). Instead, Sandel generally picks interesting - but extreme - cases such as paying drug addicts to undergo sterilization to make two narrow points about markets corrupting that which is traded or making an assumption that willingness to pay can be divorced from ability to pay. In addition, he doesnâ€™t do much to deepen his analysis of these two points - he merely points out a myriad of situations where they are present. Consequently, while his argument is valid and interesting, a lack of breadth and depth made this purchase less satisfying than it could have been.

Having seen Michael Sandel on TV and having found his intellectual clarity and gifts breath taking I simply had to read something he had written. This book is no disappointment. His writing on the subject of economic views on life is brilliant. Clear, easy to follow and profoundly challenging as he discusses the awful reality of the commodification of much of life in the western world . His chapter on gifts and their meaning alone is enough to recommend this book as a great read for anyone who has some issues with the way the world in the west is heading. He argues for a human side to our deliberations. The need for compassion rather than an economic explanation for everything.

Michael Sandel is unsurpassed in writing books that are delightfully accessible while being intellectually rigorous. What Money Can't Buy lacks the academic references to classical thinkers that were in his book Justice: What's the Right Thing to Do, which is a shame, but it is still one of the most thought-provoking books I have read in a long time.Sandel's subject is money, specifically how monetary incentives and disincentives are being used today in a wide array of realms where money was not a factor in the past. Sandel is a philosopher, not an economist or political scientist, and so he asks, "What does this mean? And why should I care?" As he says in the introduction, "to decide what money should--- and should not ---be able to buy, we have to decide what values should govern the various domains of social and civic life. How to think this through is the subject of this book."To explore the implications of the expansion of the role of markets in our lives, What Money Can't Buy considers two primary aspects: fairness and corruption. The first aspect, fairness, is the more obvious: a wealthier individual will not be affected by a societal incentive/disincentive as much as a poor one. Granted, true, but I do not need a Harvard professor to tell me so. The second aspect is the more interesting: does the use of monetary factors corrupt our sense of values? Are there basic human rights and feelings that should be immune from market manipulation? An interesting example is that of a Swiss town that was a potential site for a nuclear waste dump. The town was a very good site for such a facility, and 51% of the town residents said they would accept it. They were then asked if they would accept the dump if authorities offered to pay an annual inducement of over $8000 per person. The rate of acceptance fell from 51% to 25%. Apparently the residents did not like having the issue turned from one of civic altruism into a pecuniary matter. People do believe that there are issues in which money should not play a role.The book's prolific examples range from Bruce Springsteen concert tickets to paying for an upgraded prison cell (!) to cap-and-trade. I especially loved the Springsteen example. People were scalping tickets to a Springsteen concert in New Jersey; you may or may not feel this is unethical. However, if you are also told that Springsteen deliberately kept ticket prices low because he is from NJ and wanted ordinary people to be able to come, AND this cost him an estimated $4 million in ticket revenue, does this affect your opinion?Although I thought Sandel's examples were well-chosen, thought-provoking, and enjoyable, I wish the actual discussion of the philosophical implications of the lessons to be learned had been more extensive. He made ME think, but I'd like to have heard more about what HE thinks. The book was fairly short and over too soon.

Sandel has all the credentials that make for a fine commentary on modern American commercial society. His deep sense of what constitutes justice informs his many examples in the book of how businesses and corporations have stolen the public arena for their advertisements. He clearly describes how this creeping phenomenon has taken over the commons and usurped public spaces for their capitalistic messages. According to dispassionate marketing theories, these intrusions make sense, in the context of maximizing efficiency and promoting the common good. Sandel points out, however, that the cost is a loss of fairness and a warped idea of what community should be.

Sandel's book provides a key insight into the shift and influence of the Neo-Liberal (total faith in the free market) trend in economics. In his intro he provides a powerful statement into this shift. He states that "we" may be moving from a society that has a market-driven economy to a free-market society. The distinction is very important because the shift means that many aspects of our society (procreation, pollution, education, etc.) that are value-laden are now treated as commodities like soap, cars and pork-bellies.Sandel offers no solutions, but provides key arguments on both sides showing what a slippery slope this trend is. His analysis is excellent in showing the issue underlying each argument, and in doing so, the reader can cut through the brambles of rhetoric and view the issue in clearer terms. His writing is clear and, as mentioned above, he provides no answers, but rather forces the reader to come to their own position given all the "facts." This is a must read for people to begin to think about important moral decisions in this society and not be swayed by loud-mouthed media "pundits."
