I've been MCSE since 1999 and let it go around 2010. Now, I'm picking it all back up again. I've certified exam-wise over 20 times, my latest being CCNA Security. The author does an EXCELLENT JOB skipping over the thousands of details you WON'T see on the 70-741 exam. The exam is 45-55 questions and it goes like this: Know how to configure DNS, DHCP, IPAM and DFS in your sleep and you WILL pass this exam. Period. You wanna pass the exam? Remember the screens! Practice typing the Powershell commands. Learn to recognize a valid PS command. Remember Netsh? Play with it. Have you registered, downloaded and installed Server 2016 Datacenter from Microsoft for FREE? Can run it as a VM on Windows 10, Oracle Virtualbox or like.I've read a lot of complaining about how lean the book is on "detail". Did you read the cover before you bought the book? EXAM REFERENCE 70-741. Kind of important hint in 72cps font right on the front cover! Just sayin'. DNS! Learn it. You can't know too much about DNS. DHCP. What is it? A binding of MAC to IP kept in a JET database. What can you do with a DHCP jetpack database? IPAM. DOWNLOAD it! No, not on your work production computer! Play with it. Microsoft Message Analyzer. Love this muffin book...lost my original copy during a move, so had to purchase another. Great muffin recipes for company/guests. My favorite: cranberry cream cheese muffins....a must try

This cookbook might not be very large, but it packs a punch. Some delightful recipes for various muffins are included, from truly decadent chocolate ones to more healthful ones with fruit and nuts. Some of the recipes include mixing up the dough and being able to keep it for a while in the fridge, so you can bake fresh muffins all week long.I especially enjoyed the little blurbs that went with each one regarding the B&B it came from...makes me want to go and visit some of them. It gave the cookbook a nice friendly feeling.The only thing that would have added to this cookbook would have been a few color pictures of some of the muffins in question, but that probably would have raised the price of the book.A cute gift for someone who is always looking for a few good muffin recipes to add to their collection of tried and true favorites. It would also be good for someone looking to start their own B&B business or to go into a gift basket with some baking supplies.

As a bed and breakfast owner and innkeeper, this book is indespensible. We have been using it for years and bought two more for friends. Tried and true recipes.

I loved the behind the scenes stories that lead to the creation of Everglades National Park, Grand Staircase Escalante National Monuments, and other federally reserved lands. I knew going into it, that Bruce Babbitt was Clinton's Secretary of the Interior during his 8 years in office, and Babbitt has some funny antidotes about his dealings with the president. All in all though, Babbitt does a great job of laying out what is needed to sustain the balance of environmental protections and economic prosperity in the west. He might be the smartest person on the subject.

I purchased this book for a class, and it was very good. Babbitt is a good writer and it's not the first book I've read by him.

A classic--everyone should read this.

Babbitt begins by telling us that relentless building of highways have spearheaded landscape destruction as land speculators and developers follow. Local governments generally have neither the political will, expertise, nor financial resources to stand up to well-financed developers and their political contributions. Babbitt then goes on to make the case for federal leadership in making land use regulation more effective, and uses examples from his experience involving the Everglades, Southern California, and the Chesapeake Bay to make the point.The shrinking Everglades problem was caused by farms, canals, dikes, housing developments; its solution began during the early '90s, and moved forward despite Congress' tilting towards reduced spending. The first step occurred when then Interior Secretary Babbitt met with the Army Corps of Engineers, and reached agreement with them to develop a study and proposal on changing the drainage system. There was also a problem with excess fertilizer draining from sugar plantations into the Everglades - causing cattails to displace natural saw grass. They agreed to cut their fertilizer applications in half (were using too much - at the chemical companies behest), and to plant cattails at the draining end of their fields to soak up the rest of the excess. (Babbitt points out that the "ideal" solution would have been to simply end expensive sugar subsidies, allow foreign sugar into the U.S. at much lower price, and allow the sugar plantations to revert to the Everglades.) Another requirement was buying out landowners "suckered" into buying swampland that were clamoring for more levees so they could use their land. The happy outcome was a proposal backed by all sides that was enacted by Congress in 2000. (Side Note: Everglade bog land used for sugar growing has a limited life anyway - it had already dried out, was blowing away, and sunk 12 feet, and had not much further to sink before reaching limestone.)Babbitt learned in other efforts that it was much simpler to work on a project limited to a single state, and the importance of using sound science in administering the Endangered Species Act.Babbitt points out that the federal government has always been involved in land-use planning - improving river navigability, surveying, staking out, and subsidizing transcontinental railroad routes, flood control projects, dams, interstate highways. While these efforts were all aimed at land development, he believes that it now time to also boost land conservation as well.

I use "realistic" in scare quotes as an alternative to "idealistic" environmentalism without commenting on the moral value or desirability of either approach.Babbitt, Clinton's sole Secretary of the Interior, and governor of Arizona before that, is a career politician with a non-extractive industries Westerner's love of nature of his native land.Those two come together in his thoughts for how the Endangered Species Act and the 1906 Antiquities Act, used in new ways, can be two of the cornerstones of a 21st century environmentalism, primarily in the West, but indeed nationally.The other cornerstones are state lead-taking in land-use planning, in conjunction with federal support, and a new day in federal-state environmental cooperation in general.More obvious observations about the anti-environmentalism of people like President George W. Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and Congressman Richard Pombo aside, Babbitt offers a moderate amount, but not a great deal, of prescriptive specifics on how to do this.His own success as Interior Secretary was constrained by the change of administrations.Babbitt pushed Clinton into "new-style" national monuments remaining outside National Park Service control, such as Grand Staircase-Escalante NM in Utah and Giant Sequoia NM in California (not to be confused with Sequoia NP). The idea was that the landholding federal agency of record (the Bureau of Land Management in Utah and the National Forest Service in California) would develop a better conservationist ethic through being committed to national monument management of a monument that retained multi-use characteristics.While this might be true to some degree of the BLM, it certainly isn't of the Forest Service, and likely won't be unless that agency sees a MAJOR shake-up. Bruce Grant is a good writer, who turns rawhide braiding into an upbeat, easy to follow read. Lots of good advice. He knew what he was talking about. A great reference for beginners and those with experience. All the "projects" are for horse tack - bridles, reins, headstalls,stirrups, cinches, whips and quirts. Almost all is in a north or south American tradition, with a few mentions of Australian work.

The process involved with some of these techniques make my eyes cross! This book is exceptionally well put together and, for someone who can get past the eye crossing, a window into a true art form.I have actually been able to make it through some of the simpler flat braids using multiple strands, but I haven't had cause to attempt the more complicated ones, and there are VERY complicated braids in this book.I also purchased a smaller book simply titled "Leather Braiding" by the same author, and much to my dismay, the things in the smaller book are included in this complete encyclopedia. This is a great aid to anyone in crafting, and not just leather-crafting. Any of these techniques and designs can easily be adapted to plastic cording or any other medium.

This Book, was my first purchase, and I learned an immense number of wonderfulthings... The book is concise, reasonably well illustrated...I say "Reasonably", becausethere are many intricate manuvers, that require, paying attention.. Any of the publicationson knots, weaves, braids, etc., require concentration, and attention... DO move slowly,and move from example to example... With ALL of these braids, with few exceptions, theAuthor/Instrutor, has to take you through the illustrations, and make the transition toother dimensions..(different views) back side, underside, etc.. to take your through themoves...Once you have tried and failed a few, it will be easier, and sometimes you justhave to look at "your" product, to see if it makes sense... All in all, I can honestly say,that, had I not been satisfied with this book, I wouldn't have re-purchased it.... There areother weavers and braiders, but I am confident this will be one that will get you going..andunless you are going into business, it is unlikely, you will master everything "Bruce" has tooffer... I hope I've helped.... After I accomplished what I wanted, from this one, I boughtanother of his books, " How to Make Cowboy Horse Gear"... I am pleased with my resultsusing that one, too...

It is a good read with a few good illustrations although they are often primitive, you get a good idea of what the author is trying to convey. Lots of material for use in craft projects, or starting out making horse tack, braided decorative work, or more complex pieces of authentic gear.

My 12 year old son has recently developed an interest in rawhide braiding. He is like a vulture circling any dying cow on the ranch. What a funny kid. He stretches and cuts his own rawhide laces so he was exstatic to get this book for Christmas! He has been into leather for years now too!

The instructions are clear if you're not a beginner as this is for someone capable of thinking in three dimensions and following hand-drawn diagrams that are not always accurate in their over-under sequences.For beginners and novices there are better how-to guides but once those skills have been learned, this book will give you enough projects to last a lifetime.Will post my review of D.W. Morgan's Braiding Fine Leather book later so stay tuned!

This book is fantastic! Exactly what I needed. Yes...the example/tutorial hand-drawn sketches are a bit dated and you do need to imagine them in 3D...but the information is priceless. I've already completed a couple of projects that I purchased the book to achieve. Though they didn't turn out the first time exactly the way I wanted...that's not the book's fault it's mine. This type of work requires practice. Wonderful resource for ANY leather worker's library.
