Its unfortunate there aren't layers to the review system. Its not that book was poorly written or inaccurate. The author was great actually. However, there have been NUMEROUS AND SIGNIFICANT natural disasters in the exact locations of dozens of the most popular hikes. MOST of the hikes south of Monterey included have been impacted by the floods and forrest fires. Exposure, ticks, and poison ivy are prevalent.All in all... this edition of the book is completely out of date and not worth the price new. For small hikes around Monterey and Carmel yeah it works.

The best guide for hiking the Big Sur coastline. I used this book for a 10 day trip to Big Sur.I lived in Monterey for a year back in the early 1980's. I missed hiking this stretch of coastline. I returned in 2009 and used this guide. It gives good descriptions and includes all the major hikes along the coast.

This was a gift for our daughter. She is always looking for new places to go hiking. This book has a lot of information. Lists where you can hike with dogs.

This is perfect if you live here or if you're just visiting the central coast of California. There are trails for all abilities and a variety of environments from coast to forest.Can be a little difficult to read the maps on the larger places that have numerous trails, but the maps will keep you on a trail even if it wasn't the one you started on :)

My wife loves it very happy! Tons of great hikes to check out can't wait to explore them all. Organized very nicely and easy to use.

Best hiking guide I've used. Detailed directions, great maps, easy to find hikes in specific areas.
