I got this for a sweet little girl who, for some reason, just loves bugs and animals. She was very excited about the book and I can understand why. The print is large enough that it doesn't stuff too many facts into one page - - it's an easy read for an 8 year old and packed with a lot of science. I even enjoyed reading it as a quick look at bug science. I actually learned something too! I recommend this book for any child with an interest in science or biology, or even an adult looking to learn something about bugs.

Very easy book to read. I purchased this book to help encourage a young man that I have been tutoring while also challenging him to try harder and enjoy reading.

I got this for my two boys ages 4 and 5. While the specific reading may not be for much older kids, I think what's presented can generate questions and interest, even for me. It's fun stuff and the boys really like it. There is a good variety of critters and topics. Seems to be well made and will not be torn up as quickly as some of the other books they use a lot.

My 8-year-old nephew is obsessed with bugs, insects, and spiders. He lives in Czech Republic and is just learning to read English, so this was the perfect gift for him. I sent it along with the Backyard Safari Field Scope and he was thrilled.

I did buy this book for my 10yr old nephew, but when I received it, after skimming thru the pages, I became interested in the colorful detail of the pictures, and the interesting facts about the animals-- as an educated 65 yr old adult, I was presented with specific insect and spider facts.. that I had been unaware of before. This is a great companion for the set of real insects encased in plastic cubes that I also purchased for my nephew.. EXCELLENT --CHOICES!!!

Andrew Watts outdid himself this time with Overwhelming Force! My heart was pounding as I joined the Manning family and their military colleagues to handle the all out attack of the Chinese on the USA. As always, Watts used his military background to paint very believable scenarios of battles in the Pacific theater, battles for Guam and Hawaii , and battles in the continental USA in a fully coordinated attack on the United States . The Chinese goal was to defeat the US and to rule the One World Order. The death of the US President left me hanging. The ending was a strange twist that I didn't see coming ! I look forward to reading book 6 in the War Planners series! Thanks, Andrew for another great read!

A great continuation of The War Planners series. Overwhelming Force is book 5 and starts off with non stop action and continues throughout the whole book. The Chinese have taken years to put a plan together to falsely discredit the United States buy tricking us into launching a first nuclear attack on North Korea. They have also developed a new secret weapon which enables them to destroy our ships. Without giving away too much more I highly recommend this book, although it can be read as a stand alone all 4 War Planner previous books lead up to this story. I did receive this as an ARC copy in return for a honest review. I think this book wonâ€™t disappoint anyone who likes to read action books and who wonâ€™t put them down until finished, itâ€™s that good!

This was, by far, the most intense of all of The War Planners Books. The transition from Book 4 to this one was seamless and picked up the storyline effortlessly. Victoria, David and Chase take on dominant roles and the development of them as characters matures with the story. It will be interesting to see, IN Book 6, what is in store for Lena and whether or not Chase plays a significant role. Hopefully, Book 6 will not be long in coming.

The story continues in a fast pace way. These books make you think deeply and challenge what we have been told and what we think. Parts of it bring back the stories from WWII I have heard about our nation and her response to the effects of war on everyone. If you have not treated yourself to these books get all five and take a weeks vacation. You will not want to put them down. No book has kept me more engrossed than these have.

This story was nothing short of extraordinary. I can't think of a better war-strategy -techno thriller story that's been published in the past five or more years. It out me in a headlock early and kept me there, steadily increasing pressure, the entire time. What makes it unique was good old American guile and audacity... I can only hope the author brings out another book in this series....

This was a great series of Military Fiction -- or is it closer to the truth? You won't go wrong reading this.Having said that, I looked forward to the last book -- and it was great until the 2 last chapters -- then it was only good. [From 5 stars to 4 stars] /// Spoiler Alert -- 8 submarines can't get one carrier; and what about sanctions against China or reparations, etc.; and the baby? Well maybe there will be a sixth book that would better finish the series.

I will comment briefly on this particular volume from the perspective of a layman who does not read ancient Greek, but who very much enjoys ancient Greek literature and philosophy.The translation is rendered in clear, unstilted English, which I understand to be reflective of Xenophon's plain-spoken style in the Greek. The volume read very well on my Kindle Fire tablet.That's it. If you would like to read Xenophon, this is a great choice, in a fine medium, at a great price.

This is an excellent way to get a complete collection of the works of Xenophon extremely cheaply, all in one place. Xenophon is one of the great ancient Greek writers, and definitely worth one's time, although some academics feel he falls a bit short of Thucydides. I read Xenophon's "Hellenika" via the (hardcopy) Landmark Series edition just after finishing "History of the Peloponnesian War" by Thucydides because Thucydides is incomplete, and "Hellenika" consciously picks up pretty much where Thucydides left off.I initially bought the "Complete Works" so that I could obtain and read "Anabasis", which turned out to also be a great story. If you are one of those (as I am) that uses maps to assist in forming a mental picture of the action, you will want to have something handy (the web is full of them) as you read; the lone map in the front of this is only OK, and as with most graphic content, Kindle is not really great for this. With respect to text itself, this appears to be a comprehensive Xenophon collection, and every Xenophon title whose name I have run across in my reading is included in this one enormous Kindle volume. Although I can vouch only for "Anabasis" so far, the text I read contained no obvious errors or bad text. To give a general idea of its size, "Anabasis" is only about 5% of this book.

I bought this primarily to read Anabasis, which is a great adventure story as well as a lesson in what is required of effective leaders. Xenophon has a simple and engaging style - no frills, just the facts. He also has a subtle sense of humor that pops up in surprising places. Proof that a good tale never goes out of style.As with all Delphi collections, this one has an excellent table of contents and pretty much everything you would want to read by the author. You can't beat them for value - a high-quality collection with photos, maps, and prefaces for a very low price.

Translation is competent with good readability. Hard to critique this classic otherwise.For academic work I keep my texts on my laptop for reference. I wish Kindle hadbetter search and copy tools for quotations, etc. with MLA-appropriate citations.

Delphi Classics are excellent

If you'd like to understand how people have not changed in 2400 years, read this and Thucydides. Generals have a way of getting to the point

Xenophon is read by bated breath! I love this and Delphi gives you everything from the author.

My problem is I expect a horror novel - and I appreciate they are difficult to write - to be, and this will seem strange, realistic. By that I mean that if something dark pursues the protagonist, said protagonist will not rely on her bare hands when facing a creature capable of tearing a human in half with its own hands, particularly when she has no fighting skills. She'll get and train with a gun or sword or something a bit more potentially lethal than her fingers and a surly attitude. Indeed, if a group of people are summoned to find an immense number of evil creatures and their allies, they will arrive for the fight with something besides their bare hands and the occasional kitchen knife, especially when they know their enemy's ranks are fleshed out with a legion of mercenaries carrying automatic weapons. But it's not the particulars of combat that derail the novel. I would also expect that the instant of attack by a creature is not a time when the protagonist will engage in a philosophical analysis of the uses of the emotion of fear and use it as a motivator - that is not what people do. Before or after, not during. The initial story idea is a good one, a reflection of the eternal battle between good and evil, but... But is it unique to the founding of America, is a heavy handed collusion between the police and the serial killers to deal with undesirables (which the serial killer monsters don't really seem to take care of), the government is somehow involved in the conspiracy (though why and for what is not terribly clear), and in all these conspiracies only one person ever speaks up? And of the 335 million Americans scattered about, none will even look up from their diner lunch when the shambling horde stumbles by and call the police? (And the few that stir themselves to do so get no assistance because every police department in the country is in the conspiracy.) It all doesn't work, not for me, because what seems to actually happen in America is that when some awful tragedy takes place, and we get a lot of those things, a bunch of people stand up and step into harm's way. Maybe the author wanted to make some sociological or political points by metaphor but, if so, I'm afraid the points were lost with the lack of realism about what people actually do. On the positive side, I think the basic story idea and its twist could be a good basis for a novel and you might find that makes up for what I viewed as "cons."

If youâ€™re looking for major changes in Kesha and Aliceâ€™s story, this book isnâ€™t for you, but this book smoothes out some rough edges of the final season of the podcast as the story grew too big to be told realistically by a woman talking into her Truckâ€™s dispatch radio. It is a story about anxiety, courage, and what it takes to change a world rotting in hate.

Okay, I bought this because I knew of the podcast on which it was based. I thought it would be cool to read the podcast story as a novel. I was wrong. It was repetitive by page thirty - drive, meet creepy dude, everyone ignores creepy dude because of vague reasons, drive some more. Then I remembered that the podcasts I listened to by the same folks were big on dread, intricate details that go nowhere, and faux introspection.That caused me to look up some publisher reviews and realize, I'm to old to waste my time dragging myself through the book. This revealed the everything I didn't like just continued on in spades.So, I put this book down and moved on to "Awakened" by James Murrary & Darren Wearmouth. That was a much, much better book.If you like teenage angst and soap-opera-style drawn-out plotting, then read this book. If you're looking for real horror or x-files mystery solving, then look elsewhere.

First heard this story as a podcast and will therefore always be partial to that format. Praxis and the oracles hold different forms and importance in the book; some plot details are more developed and others less so than the podcast. Still, a good read.

I hesitate to give this book a bad review because I imagine that it's probably fine for some people, so I'm going to give it a middle of the road review and a caution for those who, like me, just wanted to read the podcast.This book is actually a kind of retelling of the podcast. I genuinely thought that it was just a direct writing of the podcast script put into book form, with all the story coming from the main character directly. Instead, it's kind of an outside view of the story, which to me looses a lot of the closeness that you get with the main character. I wish that I had known it was going to do this, but at the same time I don't mind having spent some money on it to support the author.I just wish I could read the actual podcast story instead of this... Detached version of it.

I started listening to Alice Isnâ€™t Dead as a podcast years ago. I fell in love with the story & couldnâ€™t wait for the book. As usual, Joseph Fink did not disappoint! Keisha is the hero I never knew I needed, and Iâ€™m so thankful to have found.

I can't describe it too much without spiking the plot, but it's very good, with a slightly gothic horror writing style. It gets the feel of the backwoods United States right - reminds me a little bit of the video game Kentucky Route Zero, if you've ever played it.Also, casually features a queer woman of color as the protagonist, which is always a bonus.
