In the past, handbooks or workbooks that came out based on previously published books have largely been a let down to me. They often do little more than point to sections of the original book to read, quote some related Scripture, and walk the reader through some application questions. While it is based on Jeff Vanderstelt's previous book, Gospel Fluency, it doesn't require you to read it. In fact, that book is summarized for you in the Handbook. Moreover, rather than simply walk through some basic application questions, this book is designed to create an experience all its own.But what is the book actually about? The Gospel Fluency Handbook is said to be a "practical guide for speaking the truths of Jesus into the everyday stuff of life." Our greatest problem before and after our conversion is unbelief. This handbook is designed to take the reader into the depths of the gospel in order to build faith. Faith is not just for initial salvation, but living as Christ's disciples in all parts of life. Throughout the book, the authors give very specific examples of sin and show how faith in Christ can be applied as the remedy. As a bonus, the handbook provides access to videos online which will enhance the learning experience.In terms of the design, the book is laid out to give three sections to be read each week. This is followed by space for reflection and preparation for discussion with a group. Moreover, the actual look of the handbook is pleasing to the eye. The Gospel Fluency Handbook: A Practical Guide to Speaking the Truths of Jesus Into the Everyday Stuff of Life written by Jeff Vanderstelt and Ben Connelly offers valuable insight for the Christian experience (Gospel Experience). I read through the book by myself, nor did I take the time to answer the reflection questions. However, I believe that this book would make an excellent group study. I found the handbook very practical and was blessed by the content. I would enjoy a group study. Bible study should improve whenever it involves community engaging in honest reflection, dialogue, and discussion. The handbook includes a code that enables access to videos by the author. The videos enhance the study, I enjoyed the videos more than the reading, probably because I read through the book myself without a missional community, a community similar to the author’s practice and suggestion.The concept of becoming fluent in gospel language is biblical. The gospel should permeate every area of our lives. I appreciate the author’s counsel to live and speak the gospel at work, through parenting, and community. Careful meditation on the truths within this handbook can help the Christian, and the local church to become gospel centered, honestly, isn’t that appropriate and expected for Christ followers?The authors identify the goals of the book in the introduction; “The first goal of the Gospel Fluency Handbook is to help you become fluent in the gospel-in other words, to help you move from unbelief to belief, in whatever area(s) of your life you find it difficult to believe God’s promises, and live according to that belief. I own more than 100 Persian cookbooks, in English, French, and Farsi. None of them have managed to capture and chronicle the regional diversity of Persian cooking, which deserves to be documented and shared. So, I was looking forward to this book with great anticipation. I have all of the author's previous books, and up to this point I was a fan of her work. This massive book attempts to provide an overview of the traditional cooking of Iran, region by region. Considering the years spent and miles traveled that went into this book, each region in Iran is only given a few recipes and only the briefest overview of what regional culinary traditions, recipes, or ingredients are notable to that area. There is the obligatory discussion of saffron and saffron harvesting, but we can get that from many other books.. Although the author supposedly collected traditional recipes, the author admits that the recipes have been re-worked, and they are no longer the actual traditional recipes, but instead she has used the traditional recipes as a jumping off point. Many ingredients are difficult to obtain outside of Iran, such as unripe pistachios, and a few of them are little known- even to Persians. The pictures are nice, the food styling is artistic. The author's attachment to a particularly unflattering white baseball cap in most of the pictures where she is shown is most unfortunate. This book is enormous; in excess of 750 pages, but considering it's size, the number of actual recipes is surprisingly few. On so many fronts, this book fails to deliver. Instead, it feels like the author traveled extensively and ate her way throughout Iran and then produced a souvenir volume of her adventures; published it, and generated a legitimate tax write off for her travel expenses. I am sure the author had great adventures re-connecting with old friends, making new ones, and re-discovering Iran and it's culinary traditions for herself. However, although this book shares parts of the author's experiences, it's contribution to a true study of regional Persian cooking is sorely lacking, and from a Persian food perspective, this book is a complete let down. It is more of a travel memoir than a cookbook.

Najmieh Batmanglij's Cooking in Iran is not just a cookbook, it's a journey through the plains, mountains, cities, and villages of Iran. A welcome addition to Food of Life, Cooking in Iran further contextualizes the cuisine of Iran within the day-to-day culture of its citizens, and across the many regions of the country. The recipes are based off of treasured household dishes, as well as more popular iterations of classic Iranian fare. While some of the ingredients are hard to find, most of them can be easily procured online. Some of the recipes may seem complicated, but what else should one expect from a world-renowned cookbook author (this is not a coloring book after all)? Despite the daunting look of some of the recipes, the effort put into them is worthwhile. The Spinach and Dumpling Osh (pg. 402) was deeply satisfying, and the Saffron Rice + Potato Croquettes (pg. 328) were delightful and bright (I made the vegan version). Many of the recipes have vegetarian and vegan twists that turn out with solid results.Writing a cookbook is not easy, nor is the research behind it. Cooking in Iran is the best attempt I've come across at distilling the essence of Iranian/Persian food culture. For some, it may seem that the book teeters too much on the travelogue side. However, for those who are unfamiliar with Persian culture (or who will never be able to travel to Iran), the copious amount of information and photographs provide necessary context for the recipes, and illuminates the history of the dishes. I also think Najmieh looks lovely in her white hat.

The book is filled with hundreds of delicious recipes and stunning visuals of the local cuisine of Iran. It traces the story of Najmieh's journey revisiting Iran after thirty-nine years to celebrate the specialties and traditional dishes of each region. It's as much a journey through history as it is through food, and Najmieh does an amazing job tying these two together while providing the reader with clear, step-by-step instructions to creating mouthwatering plates!

This book is a step further than a regular cookbook! It has a bit of history, a bit of geography and lots of dishes that has been forgotten and yet they are super delicious and easy to make/ find ingredients!Not only it is a book for your kitchen or coffee table, it is a novel to read at night before falling asleep and dream about yummy food! :)Najmeh's books has impressed me in the past, but this one by far is the best! :)Thank you Mrs. Batmangili!!!

I don't like the binding. The book is heavy and the hinge is only paper, that split easily. The recipes in the cookbook itself are great, but then I have been cooking Persian food for some time and appreciate a new perspective by this writer.

This book, these recipes, and these pictures take you on a Journey! Journey to the places where I might never be able to go otherwise...I tried the Sumac Meatballs recipe; it was very easy to make and very delicious!!

Bought for 8 year old niece and nephew. They LOVE it! It's their new favourite book. I bought them several more Roald Dahl for Christmas because of this.

Just purchased the Kindle version to read to my almost 3-year-old, 6-year-old and almost 9-year-old. My toddler can take it or leave it, she is taking cues from her sisters and "oooo-ing" and "ahhh-ing" in the appropriate places. The two bigger girls love it and so do I! It has the right amount of detail so it doesn't bog down the book. It's action packed and keeping us on the edge of our seats. The end of each chapter has a great cliff hanger that has the girls begging me to keep reading. It is a tad short. It took me 20 minutes to get through the first 5 chapters so we will probably finish the book up in a couple more nights. This is the first chapter book I chose to read to the girls and I'm glad I picked this one. I was worried my oldest (already a huge bookworm) wouldn't like me doing the reading and I was worried my middle kid would get bored quickly. What a good book and great book to read together as a family!

Roald Dahl's Fantastic Mr Fox was one such book!What I liked most about Fantastic Mr Fox is not just that it’s a good story, but it’s a good story that’s meant to be read aloud. Every word is in the story is needed, you can’t just skim read the sentences and get the same effect. And every word read aloud “feels” good in the mouth!Roald Dahl was a creative and brilliant writer and given he wrote many of his works for children, perhaps intended for them to be read aloud, by a parent or carer at bedtime, like I did for my son. We read several other of Dahl’s books, but none ever struck me as quite so poetically flowing and pleasing to the ear (and tongue) as Fantastic Mr Fox.I couldn't find my son's copy of Fantastic Mr Fox after the timeline reminder, so for old times sake, I purchased the Kindle version, and enjoyed reading it again. I recommend you do the same. Perhaps find a quiet place to read it aloud. Or, better still, read it to your child at bedtime.I think like me, you’ll find reading Roald Dahl’s Fantastic Mr Fox aloud is fantastic!

Fantastic Mr. Fox is a fantastic book! There are a lot of cliffhangers in this book! All the characters are unique and interesting in their own way. The animals have so much personality. Its wonderful little digging creatures give it charm. This book is good to read to 1st-5th graders. The book is very enjoyable and fun. It is entertaining. If you like fantasy, this is the book for you! You would also like it if you like animals that talk and act like humans. If you like action packed stuff, you'll love this book. If you are a fan of Walt Disney's animation, you will like Quinten Blake's illustrations. You should get this book-- our class loved it!

Such a fun book. My five year old (who is really into gross stuff) thinks this book is hilarious and loves hearing the nasty tricks the Twits play on each other. I Loved it too as a kid, and now, and I am so glad she feels the same. Unlike some books where I find myself wondering if the bad guys are giving her bad ideas she would not have thought of otherwise... the tricks and trouble the Twits make are so far-fetchedly terrible that even my little Bart-Simpson-Dennis-the-menace child immediately sees the humor and ridiculousness, and of course sympathized with the poor monkeys. A great book to read aloud with kids.

I was surprised that the print (lettering) is so pale. But that is the way Mom remembers it, so it is fine. I just find it difficult to read. So does she, but she has the story practically memorized. She read it to the second grade in her school library for nearly 20 years. Now that she is 88 years old she likes to read it or have me read it to her.

Dahl is a creative genius! I bought Fantastic Mr. Fox, The Witches, and James and the Giant Peach as part of the summer learning fun I planned for my 5.5 year old son. Fantastic Mr. Fox is a quick and easy chapter book for parents to read to small children in order to introduce them to more advanced reading. Older children (6+) could easily read this independently. We finished the book in about a week reading every night as a family and then watched the movie together. The movie is entertaining but only loosely based on the events in the book. My son LOVES both and I love that he is so enthralled with reading.

I was trying to steer my 8 year old daughter away from Dork Diaries and the like. She normally is bored with books if the first chapter isn't filled with drama to pull her in. She has started a lot of books but only finished a few. I wanted her to see that she can find a book that would keep her attention without the preteen drama queen theme. She read this one "cover" to "cover" on her Kindle.loved this book because it was very silly and descriptive. The words flowed together to paint a picture in her mind, unlike some books where the wording gets in the way of the story. She said that Roald Dahl is now one of her favorite authors, and she would like to read other books by him.

Big Nate...one of the best comics ever known (you might not agree with me. But that's ok, right?). I have read lots of Big Nate and the end result is always good. There are also lots of biggies in this book...you wish to know? Alright, I shall. Get ready to know the things. 1, Nate gets in detention by Artur (Nate helps Artur with painting something. Doesn't end all that well.). 2 Nate's skateboard gets drowned in the river (Nate's skateboarding and he gets caught by a lady walking her dog. I mean, what's up with THAT?). 3, Nate then finds out Arthur's in the scout troop that Nate, Francis, Teddy, and others are in. Now before I start going chit-chat, Arturs Nate's archenamy (however you spell it.). So Nate basically hates (or dislikes, however you put it.) Arthur. So then he heads home and Francis comes with him (Artur was offering rides home, but Francis said no thanks.). Then Nate finds out they are doing a fundraiser with warm fuzzies (no idea what they are. Who cares anyway.). 4, Nate wants to know the prizes, but Francis has a guitar lesson. So then he has to go. But he says they are on the back of the buchore (whatever.). So then there is third. It is a robot that plays songs. Nah. Second. A telescope. No thanks. But then the GRAND prize. A make-your-own skateboard. Then Nate gets fired up. He wants to win that skateboard. So then he says he'll convince people to buy them. I could go on and on, but I don't want to spoil EVERYTHING. As a general rule, I pooh-pooh "graphic" novels. To me, that's a euphemism for comics (Archie, anyone?) and really, all kids should be reading LITERATURE!!! Enter in one of my twin boys. He's a "reluctant reader" who took to Nate. He begged me to read Nate. Months of procrastination later, I picked on up and was surprised to find that I thought the books were honestly funny and, so long as the parent discusses with the child the meaning of sarcasm, irony and sardonic wit (and how that's all great in a book but NOT GOOD in real life) then the books are not only harmless, but a solidly constructive step towards reading "real" books. I know, readers of my review will be appalled at my literary snobbery. What can I say. I am a wanna-be erudite.So, for "reluctant" readers, especially boys, this would be a relatively benign choice (v. Wimpy Kid which I don't like as much). For any other child, this is a reasonable addition as a funny alternative to literature. These would be good on a family vacation when everyone relaxes with a book in the afternoon. I would say target age is from 7-10ish. My boys are 8 and 10 and loved them.

Grandson who is 9 loves these books. Move over iPad! He can’t put them down!

Our seven year old is obsessed with this series. He spends his allowance money on them. He received four more for Christmas, and is receiving a reading award in his class next week. He will ask to go to bed 30 minutes early just so he can read. Needless to say, we are extremely pleased.

My 9 year old LOVES the Big Nate books & now collects them! I'm excited that he comes home from school and wants to read instead of play video games & will continue to order these books for him! They even have these in the school library as approved reading material for his age & grade, so I I know they're GOOD books!

The book is good, but it's 80 pages less than the Japanese one. They cut so much out, like background scenes, DLC pictures, Opening storyboards, some pictures of the main characters were cut in their profiles, a 6 page interview with the producer(that could have been easily translated). This is just lazy on Prima Games part, considering the book was delayed multiple times. I love Persona 5, it's one of my all time favorite games, but this is a slap in the face to someone that was really looking forward to the english release version.

 The Art of Persona 5 is a beautiful book that I found stunning to look at and see the development of. The art sketches were out of the box creative and gave excellent descriptions of what went on in the designer's mind when drafting it. If you really appreciated the game's art or are interested in character and setting design, this collection does not fail to entertain all ages in a stylish motif.

First off, yes, this edition has a significant amount of cut content compared to the Japanese version - and for this reason, that edition will always be the definitive one. However, if you are like me and just have a casual appreciation for the style and presentation of Persona 5, this can still be a fantastic item for you.Just a brief review of the physical book itself before I return to this topic. Even in this neutered form, this is still quite a hefty tome, with all pieces of artwork reprinted in crisp high definition. My only real complaint is the thin stock of the cover, which is honestly closer to a sleeve. That said, I have few complaints with the product itself.Back to the actual content, and more specifically, what was cut - a number of pages focusing on fonts, messages, loading screens, battle portraits, and various other minor pieces of artwork are missing from this edition. I personally don't really miss them; they would be nice to have, but they don't add a whole lot to the experience either. The REAL items that people should miss are the short interview with the artist and the storyboard for the opening cinematic. This is a shame, but without the language skills required to interpret them, I can't say I begrudge their exclusion too much. The same goes for the lack of artist's notes on the concept sketches; while they took away a touch of the artist, the artwork itself has been cleaned up.That's all I really have to say for this edition. As previously stated, the Japanese version will always be the definitive version, but don't let that keep from enjoying this book in a convenient English format.

I own both versions (JPN and US) official art works. While this version is actually incredibly impressive and well done, I prefer the Japanese version much more so. About 80 pages of content were cut (including the storyboard for the opening cinematic). While the US version has notes translated by Hashino himself, i was looking forward to reading his interview being translated as well. Also this is a paperback. While it hold extremely well, I just wish it were hardcover to fully support the 412 pages in the long run.

I love me some artbooks and I love me some Persona. This artbook is so good that, when I took it to a con to get signed, I've had voice actors ask multiple times to look through it a little longer or take pictures of their character's pages. It's binded well, the colours and printing are fantastic, and it's so nice to be able to read one in a language I fully understand (because my Japanese is, unfortunately, elementary at best and kanji is difficult for me.) I was really pleased to see this get translated and released. :) GREAT artbook.

As mentioned by other reviewers, this version of the art book has a substantial amount of cut content compared to the Japanese version. You are much better off buying the Japanese version through a book importer if you want to have the complete Persona 5 artbook. The only reasonable argument for wanting this particular item is if the English translations are an absolute must for you.

I love this art book. It's significantly different than the previous Persona art books but I do love that it's twice the size so that I can appreciate the detail even more. I also loved reading the commentary on each character and their design.

Thoroughly enjoyable book. If you believe in this sort of thing, this book will reassure you, that our loved ones are right beside us. If you don’t at least maybe you won’t feel that this author is trying to manipulate people, but is trying to do this for the right reasons.The book is very well written and easy to read. It tells the story of a woman who came to the role of psychic in some ways reluctantly. Growing up, she felt she had influences to her moods that she could not explain, as well as voices and visions. She thought she was going crazy. She never pursued this role, it pursued her. A few times she felt unsettled by it and backed off, shutting her sensitivity down and going on to study at Oxford and later becoming a teacher. There she also realized her empathetic nature enhanced her teaching. Ironically, she was well aware that her background as a psychic, could cause her to potentially lose her teaching job. Funny how this is not covered under religious differences. Do we let people go of other faiths, I think not. But, being a medium brings other biases to the fray.The author went through rigorous testing and has been certified as a psychic. She wondered if her gift would work without knowing who and where the person was that she was reading for. Those are only our limitations, the other side apparently does not think this is an issue. I have read a number of books in this vein, and this is the most level-headed matter-of-fact one, written by a psychic, that I have seen. Unfortunately some of the new-agey ones, come across as charlatans and do more damage than help (I could name a few but won’t). I have also read books on the extensive testing as the scientific community has been trying to understand people with these gifts for years. It is as involved as any FDA drug test.This was an easy to read and informative book and also very comforting. Over and over again, the author emphasized, the signs are all around us, we just have to keep our minds and senses open to this.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Light Between Us: Stories from Heaven. Lessons for the Living. When I started reading it, I thought I was searching for proof of an afterlife. After a few chapters, I let the notion of scientific proof slide and allowed myself to become emotionally reeled in by the love-filled stories in the book. I cried, I laughed, I held my breath and I felt empathy for those who have lost loved ones and for Ms. Jackson herself.Though I enjoyed the whole book, I have two favorite chapters. In the first one, The Bonsai Tree, Ms. Jackson discusses the idea of free will versus predeterminism. She suggests that our lives include some of both. With regard to our direction in life, she says that the other side has shown her that, “If we honor our truths, our unique gifts, and our own light, we create a very beautiful picture indeed. And if we consistently do this, we find ourselves on our true path.”In my second favorite chapter, Entanglement, Ms. Jackson discusses the idea that we never alone. She believes that we are constantly making connections that we don’t realize exist and that, in fact, we are all connected. To illustrate this, she tells a touching story of a generous young man named Kyle.The book flows so well that it could easily be read in one or two sittings. I think that there is a lot to be gained by reading it at a slower pace and allowing oneself to more fully absorb the messages Ms. Jackson is offering to the reader. I’m looking forward to following Ms. Jackson’s story.

I really enjoyed this book partly because she touches on what quantum physicists have proven - that consciousness never dies. Laura, and people like her, all happen to have bigger built-in antenna's that allow them to easily pick up the 'frequency' of the Other Side and then relay the messages to those of us who are still plugged in to "analog" channels. :-) I also enjoyed how she made it easy to empathize with her as she struggled to accept and work with her gift. I have a hard enough time dealing with the one chatterbox voice in my head - imagine trying to deal with dozens of voices blah-blahing in your ear at once! No wonder she thought she was crazy at times.This is a gentle and thoughtful book but packs a punch after you finish it....because you'll find yourself really thinking about who we are, why we're here and where we're going when we're done.
